The presentation of this world championship took place at the International Tourism Fair in Madrid, Fitur, at the Ibiza stand, in a ceremony that included the participation of the Sports Councilor of the Consell, Salvador Losa; the President of the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation, Fernando Carpena; and the Open Water medalist, Candela Sánchez.

The championship, which will take place entirely in the waters of the municipality of Santa Eulària and has the institutional support of the Consell Insular de Eivissa and the collaboration of the City Council of Santa Eulària, will also include events such as the Spanish Open Water Championship and the Masters World Cup.

Salvador Losa highlighted the importance for the island of hosting a world championship like this one, which once again emphasizes “the qualities and capabilities of Ibiza as a sports destination” and recalled that the Insular Council has been working since 2020 on a “powerful Strategic Sports Plan” that includes not only the eight events declared of Touristic Interest but also adds new events and new international organizers interested in Ibiza, “combining their federative brands with the brand of Ibiza, a leading sports destination as is the case with this Open Water World Championship.”

Losa thanked the organizers of this world championship and the National and Balearic Swimming Federation for the trust they have placed in Ibiza to host this event, a trust that they have been working on for the last six years with the promotion of the quality and good management of the island's sports calendar.

“For our climate, our orography, our landscape, air and sea connectivity, the hotel infrastructure, the quality and great work carried out by the clubs and sports entities organizing these events... there are many factors that make Ibiza a leading sports destination, and we believe it deserves a boost, to value the effort of so many people, and to favor the consolidation of our island as a reference in sports tourism,” concluded the councilor.

The president of the Spanish Swimming Federation, Fernando Carpena, highlighted the potential of Ibiza as a “sporting tourist spot where the sea is a key piece for organizing these types of top-category competitions” and trusts that it will be a collaboration that will allow many more events like this one to be carried forward.

The mayor of Santa Eulària, Carmen Ferrer, also participated in the presentation of this World Cup and highlighted the potential of the municipality to host sporting events of this caliber, events that demonstrate the organizational capacity that exists in Ibiza.
