Taking advantage of the school break for the Day of the Balearics, Club Nàutic Sant Antoni is dedicating the last week of February to celebrate the inclusive sessions of the 30th edition of the Setmana del Mar.
DID YOU LIKE THIS CONTENT? WELL... YOU HAVE ALL OF OUR FULL PROGRAMS HERE!From Monday, February 24 to today, Friday, February 28, several groups of young people from the Association of Parents of People with Disabilities of the Balearic Islands (Amadiba), the Pitiusa Association for Mental Health (Apfem), and the Association of People with Special Needs of Ibiza and Formentera (Apneef) have been enjoying sea outings to learn to sail. A total of 62 students with special needs, accompanied by over a dozen instructors, will pass through the facilities and vessels of the Setmana del Mar.
The goal of these sessions is for the young participants to benefit from the Setmana del Mar and learn some essential aspects of navigation. During the outing, they receive lessons on making nautical knots, setting sails, and even take turns at the helm, guided by the skippers and technicians of the Setmana del Mar.
Thanks to the comfort and safety provided by the two catamarans used for the activities, the ‘Goa Sunset’ and the ‘Fontana,’ the students can participate in the maneuvers, while on other types of sailboats or launches they would have to remain mere observers. To date, and after several years of these inclusive sessions, the groups highly value the effort of CNSA to allow their students to access the same opportunities as the rest of the population.
It's worth noting that this edition of the Setmana del Mar will see a total of 600 fifth-grade students from across the island participate. This figure includes the ten classes selected through the access contest and other students who will join the 'A Day at Sea' event as a consolation prize. This is in addition to the more than 60 young people participating this week in the inclusive sessions.
The Setmana del Mar is organized by Club Nàutic Sant Antoni, with sponsorship from CaixaBank, Eroski, Baleària, and Rumbo Norte, along with the support of the Ministry of Sports and Youth of the Insular Council of Ibiza, the City Council of Sant Antoni, and the Ministry of Education of the Balearic Government.
