The Antarctic, Arctic, Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans cover more than 70% of the Earth's surface and are essential for regulating the climate and providing vital resources. However, they face serious challenges such as invasive species, changes in water temperature, rising sea levels, and the loss of marine biodiversity.
Palma Aquarium, dedicated to fostering understanding, admiration, and education about the importance of caring for the marine world, reaffirms its mission by inviting everyone to participate in its special “WORLD OCEAN DAY” programming. A series of educational and dynamic activities will take place from June 6 to June 9, where visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the effects of climate change and how they can contribute to preservation efforts.
Among the various activities, the "Recycled Toy Workshop" allows participants to create toys using recycled materials and items collected from beach clean-ups organized by the Palma Aquarium Foundation and collaborators (schools, public and private entities, associations, etc.).
Visitors can also enjoy the "Ocean Quiz Roulette," a game that provides marine facts through questions about the oceans and their conservation. Additionally, the "Experience Labs" offer sensory corners where attendees can learn in a playful way about the effects of climate change on various marine ecosystems.
Moreover, visitors can learn about the richness of the oceans and their threats by asking questions to the divers or aquarists, who will provide explanations about marine animals while the public watches them feed sharks, rays, corals, and octopuses. Guests can also interact with the Ocean Guardians on rescue missions, the Palma Aquarium Foundation's technicians, and learn about their efforts in rescuing endangered marine animals.
Raising awareness about the challenges facing the oceans is the first step in protecting them and mitigating the consequences of climate change.
