Palma Aquarium shares its educational promise at the International Day against Climate Change

18th October 2023 by Nautimedia

The 24th of October is a global important day, marked by the fight against one of the major dares of humanity: the climate change. Climate change is defined by the global and temperature change of the planet, generated long-term due to natural causes. However, in the last century, human activity has accelerated this process, mainly due to the emission of greenhouse gasses.

In this context, Palma Aquarium joins the fight against climate change with a special programme ‘FOR ACTION’ which will take place the 20th to the 24th of October, offering the visitors the opportunity to learn, participate and contribute to the protection of our oceans and of the planet.

Climate change is provoking alarming consequences to a world wide level. The marine ecosystems, as well, have significant impacts, including the proliferation of invasive species, bleaching corals, the loss of reefs, the decrease of marine habitats, and also the alteration of marine currents.

Palma Aquarium, in its work to disseminate information and raise awareness of environmental preservation, presents a special program against climate change, oriented to the new generation so they are aware and know about these effects of climate change through different educational  activities throughout the visit to the park.

Among the activities there will be offered a Neon drawing Workshop “Art of Action” with biofluorescent paint, which shines in the dark, allowing the participants to express their creativity and preoccupation for the environment. We will have the pleasure to count on with the students of EASDIB, Escola d'Art i Superior de Disseny de les Illes Balears, as well as artistic teachers. The selected drawings will be part of a mural at the Palma Aquarium and in the rest of the aquariums of the Coral World International. Furthermore, the participants will have the opportunity to win a family Ocean Pass to share their creations on social media with the hashtag #ArtforAction.

There will be as well the game “Ocean ACTION Pill”, which will show the visitors how the small day to day actions mark a difference in the preservation of the environment. Moreover, the “Experience ACTION Labs” allow an immersion of the comprehension of the effects of climate change in diverse marine ecosystems.

Palma Aquarium firmly believes that every small action makes a difference in the fight against climate change. Thus the reason they encourage to come and visit from the 20th to the 24th of October to celebrate the International Day against CLimate change and be part of the solution.
