Paula Barceló and Támara Echegoyen fight for the european podium of the 49er FX

Vilamoura closes the penultimate day of the 49er and 49er FX European Championships and does so, for yet another day, in light breeze. After three races, Club Nàutic S'Arenal sailor Paula Barceló and her teammate Támara Echegoyen remain on the FX podium in third place.

The light and unstable breeze has been the norm on the Portuguese regatta course for yet another day, despite which the entire fleet has added three new races to their scoreboards. Támara Echegoyen and Paula Barceló ended the day on the provisional podium of the Championship, in third place, after a day that Támara defined as "a good challenge for us. The course gave us a lot of opportunities, but we had to be very alert to take them. Our goal for tomorrow is to be on the podium, that's what we've been working for all week. We know that there are several teams that have options, the points are very tight and we will have to do a good job in the water to be able to get that medal".

For Paula Barceló, "if there is a word that defines the day is "struggle". It has been a complicated day, with some more opportunities than in previous days, but in the same line, with very little wind. A lot of fighting and suffering. We are happy and looking forward to more".

In the men's fleet, Diego Botín and Florian Trittel made a great comeback and climbed from 22nd to 13th place overall, tenth in the European Championship, thanks to a 9-2-12 record. Diego Botín is satisfied with the progression and is optimistic about Monday's race: "We have one more race to see if we can get into the Medal, we have options... so let's give it everything we've got".

Monday's programme includes one more race for the Gold groups before closing the TOP10 of each class that will compete in the Medal Races. For the Silver and Bronze groups, two races will be held.
