Port Adriano implements a system to regenerate marine life

Port Adriano, together with Ocean Ecostructures, has installed a state-of-the-art technology (Bio Boosting System) that regenerates marine life, turning the Life Boosting Units (LBU) into biodiversity hotspots.

The Life Boosting Units are micro reefs, measuring around 2 square meters, which replicate the functioning of natural reefs, combining a microfauna attraction system, a natural substrate cover and a multilayer structure to generate breeding and protection spaces for fry. 

In total, 10 marine regeneration units have been installed, with a view to expanding to more units in the future. Continuous monitoring of the micro-reefs allows for the evaluation of their evolution and control of the existing species. 

Port Tarraco, another marina managed by Ocibar in Tarragona, already implemented 8 LBUs in its area in February 2023. And in August of this same year, an 80% increase in biodiversity has been recorded with respect to the concrete of the port since its installation.
