PortsIB has donated boats and engines recovered from boats arriving on the Balearic coasts to two educational centers, IES S’Embat and the Centre Integrat de Formació Professional Nauticopesquera, to support the training of students in the maritime field. These materials, coming from the boats managed by PortsIB in the ports of the Balears, will be used by students to work on them, familiarizing themselves with the structures and components in a practical training environment.
In addition to this delivery, PortsIB has previously donated boats and engines to other organizations and research centers in the Balears, such as the Laboratory for Marine Research and Aquaculture (LIMIA) in Andratx, the Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA) or the Cabrera National Park. These donations allow the materials recovered from the boats to be reused in educational and scientific settings, adding value through training and research.
Since 2020, PortsIB has managed the collection of 246 boats, allocating 150,000 euros to their transport, recycling, and destruction to maintain safety and cleanliness in the waters and coasts of the archipelago. This effort not only contributes to the sustainability and conservation of the marine environment but also, by reusing part of these materials in educational and research activities, ensures that these resources have a positive impact on the community.
With this initiative, PortsIB reaffirms its commitment to the development of talent in the maritime sector, promoting training that integrates sustainable practices and fosters responsible use of resources for the benefit of education and environmental conservation in the Illes Balears.
