PortsIB will begin work this week on installing a new mooring train in the Es Rivetó area, in Portocolom. The project aims to organize and modernize the base moorings of 52 vessels, eliminating the improvised anchoring elements that have accumulated over the years (tires filled with concrete, marés blocks, among others) and replacing them with a safe, sustainable system adapted to the needs of the area.

Next, concrete blocks measuring 1.7 x 1.7 x 0.4 m will be installed, which will be completely buried due to the shallow depth of the area. These blocks will be connected by a 28 mm galvanized steel mother chain, and new mooring branches for the vessels will be placed.
The cost of the works will be 49,567 euros (excluding VAT) and they are expected to be completed within approximately 3 to 4 weeks, depending on the weather.
Since last week, PortsIB has begun the temporary relocation of the affected vessels. So far, 25 vessels have been relocated to pontoons A, B, and C, which are currently available as they are free of transit vessels. In the coming days, the remaining 27 vessels will be moved to these same pontoons and to pontoon D, located in the Pereió area.
With this intervention, the Ministry of the Sea and Water Cycle of the Govern de les Illes Balears reaffirms its commitment to an orderly and sustainable management of the moorings in the port facilities of Portocolom, ensuring the preservation of the environment in the Es Rivetó area.
