CEIP Ses Rotes Velles has developed the Missatges del Mar project on the importance of the conservation of the planet, the oceans and marine life. The expected impact is closely linked to the community of Santa Ponça, but with the possibility of extending its effect through other media and shaking consciences to involve residents and tourists in the responsibility of caring for the marine environment. To this end and to ensure a prominent presence, materials will be produced in several languages.
The plan, in line with the objectives of the Escoles Blaves of which Ses Rotes Velles is a part of, seeks to encourage critical thinking and scientific knowledge, as well as to promote a love of environmental science. The main objective has been to build a solid knowledge base among the students and to encourage a meaningful commitment to the preservation of the environment.
Through an interdisciplinary methodology, students have learned from local history to know how to contribute in the present and for the future to a better world, especially in the preservation of the oceans. In this project, the schoolchildren formulated questions according to their interests and their daily lives, with the collaboration of the teachers to connect with the educational content, an approach that perfectly aligned with four of the competition themes, such as An Ocean of Science, Ocean and Society, Ocean of Life and Caring for the Ocean from Home.
