In the last six years, the nautical sector has increased its workforce by 80%, from 3,000 to 5,500 jobs. In the meeting — in which the president was accompanied by the Minister of the Sea and Water Cycle, Juan Manuel Lafuente, and the president of the Port Authority, Javier Sanz —, the main companies of the nautical industry of the Balearic Islands conveyed their demands, such as their request for vocational training offerings in specialties that meet the industry's needs. "At this point, both the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Enterprise are working through the FP s’Embat Center, and also with this existing project for a new Nautical School," Prohens recalled.
The need for more suitable facilities and the optimization of space to allow the growth of this industry was another of the requests.
"This is where this Plan for the Reorganization of Spaces of the Port of Palma comes in, which the president of the Port Authority has been working on over the last year, explaining and reaching consensus, and which involves the progressive relocation of the industrial facilities in which we are located at the West dock to a port area adapted to their needs," explained Prohens.
"This Government is committed to the nautical industry, of which we are leaders in the Mediterranean," she concluded.
