Regulation of Boat Rentals in the Balearic Islands Under Discussion

On March 6, 2025, the Balearic Marine Cluster is organizing a discussion day that will bring together nautical sector experts to analyze changes in the Regulation of Maritime Navigation and Decree 21/2017, as well as their impact on the boat and recreational vessel rental activity in the Balearic Islands.

The event will be held at the Multipurpose Room of the Balearic Port Authority (APB) and will gather institutional representatives, legal experts, and business leaders to discuss regulatory changes and clarify doubts about their application.

The opening session will feature Javier Sanz, president of the Balearic Port Authority (APB), and Guillermo García, president of the Balearic Marine Cluster (BMC).

A debate moderated by Pedro Suasi, manager of the Balearic Marine Cluster, will follow, featuring industry experts, including:

  • Pedro Gil, president of the Balearic Islands Charter Companies Association (AECIB).
  • A representative from APEAM.
  • Leon Von Ondarza, lawyer and director of LVOF Lawyers.

The speakers will examine regulatory changes and their impact on the operations of nautical companies, addressing issues such as:

  • Restrictions on boat rentals in the Balearics as per Decree 21/2017.
  • Base port requirements and commercial activities for boats listed under list 7.
  • The process of dispatch and registration of boats, including the use of the Responsible Declaration (DR) and the requirements for boats under Spanish and EU flags.
  • Necessary inspections and authorizations for commercial activities.

The event will conclude with a question-and-answer session, where attendees can raise concerns and receive direct answers from the experts present.
