Sa Ràpita becomes the epicentre of Techno and IQFoil with the Junior Spanish Cup

22nd March 2024 by Nautimedia

The Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita (CNR) is preparing for one of the most important dates in its annual sports calendar. Next week, from the 25th to the 28th of March, the club will host the IQFoil Youth sub17 and sub19 and Techno 293 Spanish Cup, an important event that will place Sa Ràpita in the national sailing spotlight.

Over three days of competition, 170 sailors from 8 autonomous communities will gather at the CNR to compete in the sub13, sub15, sub17 and Techno Plus categories. Half of them will be IQFoil and the other half Techno 293.

"This is the second time that the club hosts an event of these characteristics, the first was in 2020, when we held the Spanish Techno 293 and RS:X Youth Championships, which we had to cancel on the second day of competition due to the outbreak of the Covid pandemic," recalls Miki Bover, sports director of the CNR.

The meeting will be held a few weeks after the Balearic Techno 293 and IQFoil Championships, held with great success at the club to coincide with Balearic Day and bringing together more than 60 sailors from different clubs on each of the islands.

"2024 is a year of logistical and sporting challenges for the CNR, which is consolidating its position as a benchmark club in the field of dinghy sailing on a national and international scale", he stresses. This Spanish Championship will serve as a logistical and organizational preparation for this year's big sporting event at the CNR: the IQFOIL Junior World Championship, which will be held from the 26th of October to the 2nd of November", he added. On these dates, the club will host this competition for the first time, which will bring together some 400 sailors from 31 different countries for 6 days of regattas.

"If in the Balearic Championship names like Ramon Villalonga (CNR) in IQ Foil sub19 male and Ariadna Patiño (CNA) in sub19 female stood out, our sailor Ramon Villalonga (CNR), champion of the Spanish Cup 2023, and also Gala Fornés (Club Surf Formentera), current sub15 female national champion in Techno, will arrive to this national competition with a strong presence," adds Bover.

The competition, which will be held with the collaboration of the Balearic Sailing Federation, the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, the Techno 293 Class and the IQFoil Class, and the sponsorship of Puig, will be held in two regatta areas, one for each class, enabled by the club for the occasion in areas close to the facilities of the entity, so that those interested who want to attend as public to see and enjoy the regatta, may do so from the breakwaters of the club.
