Sailing, canoeing, and fishing account for up to 16 nominations at the Esports IB 2024 awards

The Balearic Assembly of Sport and Physical Activity of the Balearic Islands has unanimously approved the nominations for the 2024 Esports IB awards, which feature twelve categories. During the full assembly, reports on the current situation of the strategic plan of the General Directorate of Sports and the Foundation for Balearic Sport were also presented.

The Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Sports, Jaume Bauzà, thanked the participants for their attendance and reminded that this assembly is "a consulting and advisory body, where all the agents of the sports society of the Balearic Islands are represented." Furthermore, Bauzà highlighted the greatness of Balearic athletes, "all the nominees for the Esports IB awards are deserving of this recognition and demonstrate that we are islands full of sports talent." The awards ceremony will be held next December 20 at the Professional Conservatory of Music and Dance of Mallorca.

The assembly approved the proposal of 52 nominations in the twelve categories of the Esports IB awards, recognizing the best athletes or teams of the 2024 season.

Athletes from sailing or canoeing account for many nominations in these categories, totaling up to 16.

The Real Club Náutico de Palma is a candidate in the category "We put values into sport". Neus Fernández and Martina Gomila (sailing), from Club Nàutic S'Arenal, are nominees for "Female Promise". Malen Sart (underwater fishing) is a nominee for "Best Female Athlete". Marcus Cooper (canoeing), the Olympian from Portpetro, and Joan Cardona (sailing), from the Maritime Club of Mahón, are nominees for "Best Male Athlete". Adrián Castaño (canoeing), from RCN Palma, is a nominee for "Best Male Athlete in Adapted Sport". María del Carmen García, Jana Mestre, and Violeta del Reino (sailing), from the Club de Vela Puerto de Andratx, are nominees for "Best Female Athlete in Adapted Sport". The Balearia Team RCNP (sailing) is a nominee for "Best Female Team". Toni Ripoll (sailing) is a nominee for "Best Coach". Betty Menéndez, from Nàutic de Sant Antoni, and Brigitte Vitte, from Nàutic Port de Pollença (canoeing), are nominees for "Best Female Coach". Lastly, Ángel García and Sete Benavides (canoeing) are nominees for "Honorary Awards".

Additionally, Bauzà referred to the work of the General Directorate of Sports and the Foundation for Balearic Sport with the new management model of the Balearic Islands Sports Technification Center (CTEIB): "After much work and many meetings, we are proud of the new model we are going to implement, which arises from listening and understanding with the sector".

The manager of the Foundation for Balearic Sport, Eladi Huertas, explained that the new model of the CTEIB has been structured to seek more opportunities for athletes from the Balearic Islands. For this, the model will pivot on six axes: athletes as a priority; optimization of resources; equality of opportunity; long-term excellence; objectivity and transparency; and quality over quantity.
