Salud Deudero, New Institutional Delegate of CSIC in the Balearic Islands

The Presidency of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) appointed Salud Deudero as the new institutional delegate of CSIC in the Balearic Islands this July. She succeeds Anna Traveset, who held the position since 2019.

As the new institutional delegate, Deudero will be responsible for coordinating and representing CSIC within the autonomous community, liaising with other public and private institutions and R&D&I agents in the region. She will also oversee research activities, knowledge transfer and innovation, training, dissemination, and promotion of scientific culture.

Salud Deudero Company is a marine biologist and Research Professor at the Balearic Oceanographic Center of the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, a center she has directed since December 2023 and previously led from 2016-2018. For 30 years, she has studied the responses of marine species and ecosystems to human impacts. She has published 155 scientific articles and has participated in and led top-tier research projects. Deudero has extensive advisory experience, serving on various international expert committees for marine science advice, such as ICES, TG Marine Litter EU, MSFD, and co-chairing the Marine Resources and Ecosystems Committee of CIESM. She has also advised the Spanish State Research Agency on ocean and biodiversity issues. Her work was recognized last year with the Ramon Llull Award, the most prestigious award granted by the Government of the Balearic Islands.

The CSIC institutional delegation in the Balearic Islands coordinates the region's three research centers, IMEDEA (CSIC-UIB), IFISC (CSIC-UIB), and COB (IEO-CSIC), as well as the IGME unit in the Balearic Islands, and participates in the ICTS SOCIB. The delegation represents the state agency and enhances relationships with regional institutions and entities. Its goal is to support R&D&I activities, knowledge transfer, and management, as well as to promote education, training, and scientific culture, benefiting society and highlighting the work of CSIC.
