Although the regatta organized by the Club Marítimo de Mahón (CMM) is nearly six months away, eight boats have already registered, and it wouldn't be surprising if the number of competing boats reaches around fifty.
Two "Big Boats," the "Cariad" and "The Lady Anne," were the first to register for the race, ensuring that classic large-length vessels will not miss their annual appointment with Menorca, which this year will be held from August 26 to 30. In addition to these two giants, other boats like the "Manitou," "Argos," "Esperanza," "Algol V," and "Legolas" have also confirmed their presence in Mahón next summer.
To the usual four major categories in which the fleet is divided: Vintage, Classics, Spirit of Tradition, and Big Boats—the latter reserved for vessels over 23 meters in length—a fifth called Schooners has been added, which will gather boats with two or more masts rigged as schooners. The Club Marítimo de Mahón hopes to gather participation numbers similar to the last edition, which saw 45 boats from 10 countries.
The regatta retains the four days of competition that were first implemented two years ago by the express wish of the boat owners. Thus, the races will start on Wednesday, August 27, and end on Saturday, August 30. A total of five races are scheduled, which will be coastal courses in the Port of Mahón, its vicinity, and the waters of Menorca, with no more than two races sailed per day.
The King's Cup Repsol for Vintage Boats, which has become the most impactful annual sporting event on the island of Menorca, will once again be part of The Mediterranean Champions Cup circuit alongside Les Régates Royales, Vele d’Epoca di Imperia, Argentario Sailing Week, Les Voiles d’Antibes, and the Illes Balears Clàssics from Club de Mar Mallorca and will also count as a scoring event for the Mare Nostrum Classic Trophy - Spain's Classic Sailing Cup.
The regatta is organized by the Club Marítimo de Mahón, by delegation of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, with the collaboration of the Royal National Association of Cruisers and the Balearic Sailing Federation and has the main sponsorship of REPSOL. The event also sees collaboration from the Insular Council of Menorca, the City Council of Maó, the Menorca Tourism Promotion Foundation, and the Balearic Port Authority.
