From January to July 2023, 838 recreational boats were registered in the Balearic Islands,
which represents a 5.5% decline compared to the same period last year when 887 boats
were registered.
This figure, taken from the 'Recreational Boat Market Report. January-July 2023,' published
by ANEN using data provided by the Directorate General of Merchant Marine, contrasts
with the national trend of a 5.4% increase, with 4,674 boats registered.
Nevertheless, the Balearic Islands continue to lead the national nautical market, accounting for 17.9% of all registrations in Spain, although its market share has decreased slightly from the last year’s 20%. The province of Barcelona follows with 10.9% of registrations, and Madrid comes next with 7.1%.
Regarding the charter market, 511 units were registered in the Balearic Islands in the first
seven months of the year, marking a 2.6% decrease from the previous year. The
archipelago's market share on a national level has fallen from 32.8% in July 2022 to the
current 28.9%, but the Balearic lead remains strong, followed by Barcelona with 9.3% and
Alicante with 8.1%.
Jordi Carrasco, director general of ANEN, affirms that the nautical season is meeting
expectations so far this year. The demand for charter market services continues to rise,
nearly doubling the growth compared to 2022. Companies offering nautical activities and
nautical-sports facilities continue to be in high demand, positioning nautical tourism among the holiday proposals with great growth potential.
