Slight increase in the number of boats registered in the Balearics in 2023

So far this year, 1,059 recreational boats have been registered in the Balearic Islands, a figure almost identical to that recorded exactly one year ago, when 1,056 units were registered.

The year-on-year increase, therefore, stands at a slight 0.28%, according to data from the "Informe del mercado de embarcaciones de recreo. January-November 2023", published by ANEN based on data provided by the Directorate General of the Merchant Navy.

According to the report, the Balearic Islands accumulates 18.12% of the boats registered so far this year in Spain as a whole, where 5,844 units have been registered, 3.6% more than between January and November 2022. 

The archipelago thus maintains its national leadership by provinces, followed by Barcelona, with 10.56%, and Madrid, with 7.10%. By autonomous communities, Catalonia continues to monopolise the largest share of the nautical market, with 19%, while the Balearic Islands is situated, by a narrow margin, as the second autonomous community with the greatest impact on the nautical market.

According to the study, 65% (3,808) of total registrations registered in Spain as a whole corresponds to boats for private use and 35% (2,036) to boats for rent. 

"The national nautical market maintains the stability of previous months with registrations concentrated in small boats and jet skis. In this scenario, from the employers' association we are attentive to market performance, also in the European environment where the situation is similar and the impact of economic uncertainty on sales is also concentrated in small and medium-sized boats," says Jordi Carrasco, director general of ANEN.
