42 teams began the fight for the World Championship of the Optimist class on Tuesday, December 10th, but only 16 advanced to the second and final phase of the championship: Peru, Argentina, Canada, Singapore, Puerto Rico, Malta, Slovenia, Denmark, Italy, Turkey, Great Britain, Brazil, Greece, France, Croatia, and Spain.

From the start, Spain made a clear difference by winning all its races and went straight to the final. Both Argentina and Brazil were eliminated by the powerful Singapore, which defeated Puerto Rico in the semifinal, leaving the Puerto Ricans with the third step on the podium.
In the best-of-three final, Spain was again decisive and defeated the team from Singapore 2 to 0. Thus, the sailor from Club Nàutic S’Arenal Amalia Coll, along with her teammates Mateo Carbonell, Joan Domingo, Iker Mugica, and Marta Mansito, were crowned world team champions and celebrated with their coaches, including Adri Barceló also from Club Nàutic S'Arenal, by jumping into the water and unleashing all the jubilation.
This Thursday, December 12th, the competition will continue with the individual races of this world championship organized by the Club Náutico Mar del Plata (CNMP) and IODA, with the fleets already divided into gold, silver, and bronze. Strong winds are expected for the remaining three days, which promises to add a lot of spectacle and suspense to the event.
