Special device against theft and robberies at the beaches of Calvià

The Local Police of the municipality renews forces to guarantee the security of the beach users, both tourists and residents.

Well into May, with the tourist season starting, the operations of the Police have focused on tackling criminal activity on the beaches and deter thieves to make them understand that their activity will not go unpunished in Calvià. 

The first deputy mayor of the municipality and head of Security, Esperanza Catalá, explained that ‘as we started last year, we have redoubled our efforts to ensure safety on our beaches. Those who think that they can come to Calvià to steal from bathers and that their crime will go unpunished are mistaken. We take this issue very seriously. Our tolerance for crime is zero. Thousands of people enjoy our municipality, many others work here to make us a tourist reference, and we cannot allow a handful of undesirables to ruin all that’.

In the last few days there have been a total of six people arrested due to stealing by force. Local Police officers undercover, that started last year, have arrested a gang that was acting in an organized manner in Magaluf and was under surveillance. The four detainees are Algerian males aged 18, 19, 20 and 29. On the other hand, uniformed agents caught two more thieves in Cala Comtessa (in the Illetes area). On this occasion they were two Moroccan males, one aged 19 and the other a minor aged 15.

One of the most effective assets against robbery and other illegal activities have been the undercover agents that started to work last year. In fact, the Town Hall of Calvia they work with the necessary authorization of the Government Delegation to to increase the number of staff, which currently stands at four. “We count on with a number of staff of nearly of 200 people in the Police of Calvia, they have shown their efficiency and professionalism, we can grow much more and accomplish new achievements increasing the undercover agents. We hope that the Government Delegation is open to our request and lets us increase in numbers of undercover agents”, said Catalá.
