For Gonzalvo, the Andratx port "is an important port. In terms of fishing, we have the highest number of fishing boats; as a sports port, we are world champions in adaptive sailing, in short, we believe these are qualities that needed to be highlighted. We have more than 40 nautical exhibitors and 52 moorings for second-hand boats," emphasizes the mayor of Ponent.
Ginés Martínez Pina, president of the Club de Vela Port d'Andratx, wanted to thank the Town Hall and its mayor "for the initiative to recognize with the 1st Marine Fair the nautical, sports, and fishing sector of Andratx and what the CVPA contributes, a great public good created from private initiative; a sustainable industry sustained over time with permanent jobs for many families and workers in the sector."
Martínez highlighted the role of the club as one of the catalysts for socio-economic activity in Ponent. "Our activity has provided great added value to our surroundings, driving a focus of economic activity in the Port and in Andratx, in hospitality and trade, in addition to specialized nautical industries. And most importantly, our Club guarantees access to the sea for everyone, access to nautical sports from the youngest to the oldest, from learning to swim to mastering light sailing and continuing with cruising. In adaptive sailing, we are a global benchmark, with athletes who, thanks to their effort and tenacity, lead the international competition rankings."
The Club de Vela celebrated an open house weekend, including the aforementioned nautical excursions, a second-hand market of about 70 boats, and an exhibition about the Club's history, featuring an animated lecture by Antonio Palmer, Pep Pascual, and Ginés Martínez Pina on “55 years of history between Andratx and the Club de Vela.”
Following the success of this first edition, Concha Negro, manager of the Club de Vela Port d'Andratx, acknowledged that “this can only be the beginning of a long tradition.”
Parallel to the highlighted activities, the restaurants in the Port participated in the celebration by offering special menus typical of marine gastronomy, with Mallorcan recipes for fish and seafood.
