Following the resounding success of its first edition, the ingredients for the second edition of the Vuelta a Sa Porrassa Swim were presented today at the Hotel Zel Meliá Mallorca, returning with strength on October 5 in Magaluf.
STAY UP TO DATE OF WHAT WE DO AND RECEIVE OUR NEWSLETTEROrganized by Mar de Fondo & ZEL, this non-competitive crossing around the island of Sa Porrassa is designed for all levels, offering participants the chance to swim 2 km using a mask, goggles, fins, and snorkel, or by using paddle surf or kayak.
If more than 150 people participated in the first edition, held around this time last year, this second edition will see over 250 people gathering at Magaluf beach, surpassing all participation expectations. The event will feature prominent figures such as the mayor of Calvià and triathlete Juan Antonio Amengual, among many other well-known faces, becoming both a sporting success and an opportunity to advocate for the value of the area's natural environment, traditionally stigmatized by uncivil tourism. “Our goal is to change the perception of Magaluf and show that it can also be a place to enjoy nature and promote marine conservation,” said Paul Gehrig, co-founder of Mar de Fondo. “This event presents an attractive challenge for all sea lovers; it will be accessible to athletes, and as it is an open registration format, we will have people of all levels in the water, as it is not necessary to be an expert in open water swimming.”
As in the first edition, participants can use fins, goggles, and snorkels, or participate with paddle surf or kayak. Additionally, after the crossing, attendees can enjoy a space in Plaça Jacques Sasson, where several collaborating entities will offer fruit, snacks, and soft drinks, creating a great community atmosphere and camaraderie after the event.
Another primary objective is to raise awareness about the conservation of the Balearic Sea. In this regard, the main marine conservation organizations in the Balearics will be present to showcase their projects in favor of our waters.
The registration fee is €25, of which 20% will be allocated to marine conservation projects in Mallorca, with this edition's donation going to the Palma Aquarium Foundation. The event has a limited capacity, so it is recommended to register through the following link: https://www.eventbrite.es/e/ii-vuelta-a-sa-porrassa-by-mdf-zel-tickets-949885502107?aff=oddtdtcreator.
“To get to this point, we have had to generate alliances and collaborations, which is fundamental, as without the support of our sponsors this would not be possible. Additionally, we are delighted to all be on the same boat because we are 100% aligned with the core values and objectives of the Vuelta a Sa Porrassa Swim, which are to eliminate the stigma of Magaluf, bring the sea closer to people through sport, and promote marine conservation in Mallorca,” explains Toni Mora, co-founder of Mar de Fondo.
