More than 250 people participated in this approximately 2-kilometer swim around the island of Sa Porrassa. All of them were able to complete the established course without any issues, accompanied by masks, goggles, fins, and snorkels, or even using paddleboards or kayaks. These facilities help make the event accessible to both experienced athletes and enthusiasts.

In addition to promoting the conservation of the Balearic Sea by introducing entities and projects working in this direction, which were also present at the event. And, above all, to bring the sea closer through sport, fostering an active and healthy lifestyle.
The event began at eight in the morning with the registration of participants and by nine, the starting signal was given for the registrants to dive into the sea from Magaluf beach to complete the course. Upon their return from the swim, participants were able to replenish their energy in the space set up on the sand opposite the construction taking place opposite Plaça Jacques Sasson, where various collaborating entities offered fruit, snacks, and refreshments, creating a great atmosphere of community and camaraderie, with raffles and gifts to the lively rhythm of the music by the DJ from Beso Beach and the animation proposed by the organization.
In the same area, attendees of the event, as well as their relatives, were able to learn firsthand about the different marine conservation projects carried out by various entities on the island that did not miss the opportunity to support this initiative.
As in the previous year, 20% of the cost of participant registration is allocated to support a marine conservation project in Mallorca. For this edition, the donation will be made to the Palma Aquarium Foundation and its seahorse conservation project ‘Cavallets de Mar Balears’, which alone in 2024 has introduced more than 774 seahorses into our seas.
“The Swim Around Sa Porrassa is a project we have been planning for some time, and we are delighted to see it become a reality. We want people to join this event, not only to enjoy the sport but also to value the natural heritage in an area like Magaluf. Together, we can make a difference in the protection and conservation of our sea,” says Paul Gehrig, co-founder of Mar de Fondo.
Among the participants was also the mayor of Calvià, Juan Antonio Amengual, who, although he did not participate in the swim, has promised to do so in the next edition while he supported the initiative and valued the great initiative carried out by the members and collaborators of Mar de Fondo, of which he feels “deeply proud of what they are doing for Calvià and Magaluf in this case.”
“To get here, we have had to generate alliances and collaborations, something fundamental, since without the support of our sponsors this would not be possible. Moreover, we are delighted to be all in the same boat because we are aligned 100% with the main values and objectives of the Swim Around Sa Porrassa, which are none other than to eliminate the stigma of Magaluf, bring the sea closer to people through sport, and promote marine conservation in Mallorca,” explains Toni Mora, co-founder of Mar de Fondo.
