For some months now, the fleet has had its training base at the CNA, competing in regattas such as the Trofeo Princesa Sofia or Palmavela. "The club is the ideal place for us, with the best access to the Bay of Palma, 10 minutes from an airport very well connected to any country in Europe, ideal facilities, conditions and infrastructure and, above all, with an exquisite treatment, Markus Wieser, promoter of the regatta and crew member of "Momo", one of the 6M class boats in the fleet, together with "Ginkgoto", "Stella", "Maybe", "Seljm", "Delphina" and "Sophie".
The regatta, sponsored by the nautical fashion brand Marinepool, will consist of 5 races without discarding, which will be held today Friday 14th (one race starting at 15:00), Saturday 15th (two races starting at 13:00) and Sunday 16th (two races starting at 12:00). In all cases, upwind, mark and downwind courses will be sailed.
"This is a very technical class, as a lot of freedom is given to optimize the boat. Within the rating formula, a lot of modifications are allowed," Wieser emphasizes. So, in the end, one of the characteristics of this class is that the boats are very different from each other, in terms of cockpits, bows, sterns, etc.
"The 6M is quite similar to the Dragon class, with somewhat smaller boats," adds Wieser, who emphasizes that "among the sailors who will participate in the Marinepool Summer Cup there are real champions, including names like Álvaro Mariño. In the crews there are several world champions in other classes and there are also Olympic sailors, including some medalists," he stresses. "It is a class that is becoming more professional and is growing every day. Currently, the fleet that we have in the CNA is of 9 boats, but with total security, next year we will expand it to more than a dozen," he concludes.
