The president of the Port Authority (APB), Javier Sanz, has submitted in writing to the Parliament the reorganization project for the Port of Palma, whose main guidelines are to maintain ferry traffic at the commercial docks, Ponent-Paraires, and the West Dike; the progressive transfer of recovery and maintenance areas to the West Dike area; concentrating cruise operations in Ponent-Paraires, and the development of integration between port and city.

In his letter, the president of the APB referred to the open participation process that took place between June and October 2024, after which the agreement with the reorganization proposals was approved, and in which more than 65 representatives from the nautical, economic, social, environmental sectors, official colleges, and across the parliamentary spectrum participated. Sanz included in the letter a detail of the calendar of meetings and participants that took place in this process months ago.
The letter indicates that the global reorganization project of the Port of Palma will consider, among its conditions, ensuring maritime connections with three shipping companies operating in their respective locations and that no actions beyond sheltered waters are contemplated.
Likewise, the design of the integration of the port and the city is planned, in the spaces freed by the relocation of shipyards and dry docks. This process will be carried out from a purely social dimension, the report insists, defending cultural, sports, educational, and technological innovation values, in line with other similar projects in ports of general interest and according to the strategic framework of the port system approved in October 2022.
In this sense, the project will not include new spaces, nor will it expand surfaces for complementary uses—commerce, leisure, dining, or similar activities—as well as not generating marinas intended for large recreational vessels.
