The balearic “iqfoilers” throw themselves in for the World Infantile and Juvenile Championship

The olympic iQFOil boards will compete from the 28th of October of the World Infantile and Juvenile Championship at the Bay of Cadiz. More than 300 sailors of 30 different countries are gathered these days at the Centro Especializado de Tecnificación Deportiva de Vela Bahía de Cádiz (CETDV), among the 15 “iqfoilers” of the Balearic Islands they belong to the clubs of Club Nàutic S’Arenal, Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita, Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa anf Club Surf Formentera.

The Andalusian Federation of Sailing picks up the baton of the swiss locality of Silvaplana and organizes the third World Championship in the short story of the new olympic modality of Windsurf, this being the first time that the young ones will compete in open sea, as all the past events have had as a scenario lakes or indoor water.

This is undoubtedly one of the peculiarities and attractions of the Cadiz World Championship, which will test the fleet in very different conditions to those they are used to, so tactical decisions will be the key to maneuver on the waves and get to the marks as quickly as possible. There are four world titles at stake; the men's and women's Under 19 and Under 17 champions, and many contenders who will be giving their all for a place on the podium.

Between the participants, many favorites as the current champions of the Europe Sub 19, the czech Kristyna Pinosova and the italian Federico Alan Pilloni and the continental champion Sub 17, the italian Medea Falcioni. At Sub 19 feminine stand out the sailors from the Club Nàutic S’Arenal Bárbara Winau and Ariadna Patiño. Among the guys Sub 19, the “iqfoilers” of the Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita, Javier Hernández, Lluis Perez and Ramón Villalonga, other than Lucas Casas and Joan Riutort of the Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa.

Among the youngest, the category Sub 17, in the women's fleet, the current world champion, the Hungarian Hanna Simon, will be absent due to an important injury in a training session in the bay of Cadiz. Her absence will be taken advantage of by the sailors from Arenal Caterina Tomas and Marta Juncal from Can Pastilla. In the men's fleet, highlights of the Club Surf Formentera Mateo Jiménez; Hugo Perez from Can Pastilla and Miguel F. Servera, Enric Patiño, Jorge Ruiz and Jorde Cerda from Arenal.

The five first days will be of classificatory regatas and the sixth and last day will assigned with the different medal races reserved for the ren first classifies of each fleet, of which the first classified has the direct entrance for the finals, the second and third to semifinales, and from the fourth to the tenth the quarter-finals.
