In addition, this regatta of historic boats is consolidating its position as an international benchmark for this type of competition in the Mediterranean after being selected as one of the six races that form part of the select Mediterranean Champions Cup.

The Illes Balears Clàssics, which has been presented at the Palma International Boat Show, will be held this year between 14th and 18th August. Registrations are now open to take part in the regatta and the forecast is that more than thirty boats, many of them more than a century old, will come to Palma to fight in the Bay for a good place in each of the competition groups.

The vice-president of the Club de Mar-Mallorca, José Miguel Cuart, emphasized that: ‘The forecast is that 40 boats will be registered, but we are unable to host more due to the remodelling work on our facilities. It is a great pride for the organization to continue holding the regatta and may it be for many more’.

For his part, the club's commodore, Manuel Nadal de Uhler, explained the latest developments: ‘We have increased the number of days of competition by one day, which will now be four. We will introduce a slightly longer coastal race than in previous years. Among the entries we have already confirmed important boats such as the Comet or the Varuna, last year's winner, the Clarionet, and the Calima, which will compete for the Club de Mar’.

The organizing committee of the event has decided to add a fourth day of competition this year, not on its own initiative, but at the request of the participants in other editions of the Illes Balears Clàssics, which corroborates the magnificent reception of the regatta among the teams on the international classic sailing circuit.

Further proof of the high level reached after almost three decades of life is the fact that the Illes Balears Clàssics has entered the Mediterranean Champions Cup for the first time this year. This international classic sailing circuit, organized by the prestigious Vintage Classic Yacht Club, comprises a total of six races in France, Italy and Spain. The Club de Mar-Mallorca regatta, together with the Copa del Rey de Clásicos de Mahón, is Spain's contribution to the championship.
