The Club Nàutic S’Arenal honors its sailors at the Sailing Night 2024

The Club Nàutic S’Arenal honors its sailors at the Sailing Night 2024

14th January 2024 by Nautimedia

More than two hundred people have gathered this friday at the Club Nàutic S’Arenal (CNA) to celebrate the traditional Sailing Night, that the club organizes every year since four decades ago, in a family ambiance with the presence of all the sailors, workers and collaborators of the Sailing Section. The celebration is also a way to to recognise all those people with an outstanding track record in the field of sailing over the previous year.

In addition to celebrating the titles obtained throughout 2023, the season performed by the sailors and cruisers of the CNA has been praised, the organisational capacity of the Sailing Section has been vindicated and a well-deserved recognition has been given, through various distinctions, to people, collaborators, clubs and institutions for their support to the club.

During the evening, Joan Sabater, head of the CNA Sailing Team, recalled that throughout the year, the club's sailors have competed in more than 15 Spanish cities and 10 European countries, achieving a top 10 finish in international regattas on 20 occasions, of which 7 have achieved a podium position. "2023 has been a year full of successes that make us proud and that reveal that we have created a great competition team, but also a great human team". He also recalled that, in the field of regatta organisation, the Sailing Section has carried out 80 days of competition, achieving milestones throughout the year, such as the more than 500 boats registered for the Gran Día de la Vela Bufete Frau, "the regatta that most represents us and which has become an international benchmark. We are sure that its 60th edition will be a success", he predicted.

For his part, the president of the CNA, José Ramón Picó, emphasized that "this is your night, in which we celebrate the love for this sport and the successes and achievements of the club, which belong to everyone, thanks to the effort and dedication of each of you and the work of the Sailing Section, which has achieved great national and international recognition for our school and our club, where, in addition to rewarding excellence on the water, we also recognise the discipline, academic performance and the projection of our sailors. This is a club that values not only sailing ability, but also respect, teamwork and the potential of each one of you", said Picó, who said goodbye sending encouragement to Paula Barceló in view of her historic participation in the next Olympic Games in Paris 2024. Barceló. The Olympic sailor is training these days in Lanzarote and has not been able to attend this traditional celebration, so she has sent a video to her teammates of the CNA Sailing Team, as well as the 420 class team, which is still in Brazil on the occasion of its recent participation in the World Championship of this class.

Fatima Reyes, head of the club's Sailing School, also took the floor, who, after her first year in this position, wanted to highlight that the school has a team of 7 technicians during the winter and more than 28 during the summer. "The Sailing School is one of the main tools to be able to continue practicing this sport, and all of you reflect the desire to continue sailing. It has been the second winter that we have doubled the number of students, thanks to you, to all the staff of the club and the board of directors, who make us a great reference at national and world level. May we continue to have good winds for 2024!

More than 200 people attended the event, including all the club's sailors, both from the dinghy racing team and the cruising sailors. Also present were the club's collaborators and workers in the field of regattas, as well as the members of the Board of Directors of the CNA. As guests, the Mayoress of Llucmajor, Xisca Lascolas, and the Councillor for Sports of the Consistory, Simó Adrover, attended the event.

In addition to the winners for their titles and sporting achievements, the club also rewards values that go beyond the competition, through a vote carried out among all the monitors and coaches of the Sailing Section to recognise progression, perseverance, companionship and academic performance.
