The Great Day of Sailing - Bufete Frau is famous among the sailors for being one of the most fun and special years of the year, even though it is celebrated during the mid summer season, which also means an end to the nautical season.

As on Thursday, the races for the Optimist U13, Optimist U16, ILCA 4, ILCA 6 and 420 categories have continued, bringing together around half a thousand sailors to compete in the waters of the Bay of Palma.

The races started at midday and have been prolonged to nearly until 17.00h, fighting against weather conditions marked by the characteristic ‘embat’ of the Bay of these days. This second and last phase of this edition  is the most long-lived race of the CNA it takes place after last week, with a great success, the races corresponding to the Optimist U11, Optimist D (initiation), IQ Foil, Techno 293, Musto Skiff and Formula Windsurf classes, with the participation of almost 200 sailors.

The races will be prolonged until this Sunday 27th, when the gathering will close with the popular and festive award-giving ceremony to the champions of different disciplines. As a new feature, this Sunday, fathers and mothers of the sailors will be able to see their children sail thanks to a boat lended from Sa Calma Boats.

But before that, the CNA prepares for the most crowded and heavy day of activities of the 59th edition of the Great Day of Sailing - Bufete Frau. This Saturday, other than continuing the races of the categories  Optimist Sub13, Optimist Sub16, ILCA 4, ILCA 6 and 420, the club will host two sailing regattas a traditional and social one, a track being the Travesía Sa Milla CNA - Cala Blava, and an emblematic swimming race in open sea which celebrates its 20th edition.

Saturday at 9.00h, will start with the XX Travesía Sa Milla CNA - Cala Blava, a representative swimming race in open waters which will take place at the beach of Es Caló, whose benefits will go to the association of ELA Balears. This social, sporty and solidarity event counts with the participation of more than 400 swimmers of all ages and profiles, from amateurs to professionals and masters, who will swim across a nautical mile, this is 1.852 meters to be exact, between the beach of Es Caló and Cala Mosques.

From 13.00h the traditional sailing will have its moment, with a lateen rig sailing race, with modalities such as Regatta, Llaüts and Open which will consist of a coastline track between S’Arenal and Cala Gamba, with a dinner for all of those who participated as a final touch.

Regarding the social sailing, from 13.30h there will be a coastline race of Cruise category,  which will compete in ORC. The gathering will conclude as well with a dinner of about 80 sailors.

The Great Day of Sailing - Bufete Frau is the oldest regatta organized by the CNA and undoubtedly one of the most anticipated by sailing enthusiasts. It is one of the first regattas that were launched in the club, which faces it as a great celebration of the work done during the season. This great sporting and social event every year puts an end to the summer competitions and kicks off the new sporting season in the Balearic Islands.

In total, more than 700 top-level sailors will participate in the meeting aboard 575 boats in the Optimist, 420, ILCA 6, ILCA 4, ILCA 4, Open IQ Foil, Techno 293, Formula Windsurf, Musto Skiff, lateen sailing and cruising classes. They will be representing dozens of sailing clubs from all over Spain. The overall winner of the regatta will win the Rei En Jaume III Ciutat de Llucmajor Trophy.

The meeting, already consecrated in the regatta calendar of the Bay of Palma, is possible thanks to the collaboration of Bufete Frau. A company whose founder, José Frau Greenfield, has a historical relationship with the club in which he was formed and in which he has sailed since he was a child, achieving a not inconsiderable record, with titles such as Optimist world runner-up (1983), Spanish champion in Europe Class in 1984 and world runner-up in Europe Class in 1985. The family saga continued sailing in the CNA, so they are not only united by a commercial relationship, but also by an emotional one.
