The CN Portitxol prepares for the first race of the Sabatines Trophy

The Club Nàutic Portitxol (CNP) will host this weekend the start of the third edition of the Trofeo Sabatines Crucero ORC, a league format event consisting of 5 races throughout the year.

Specifically, this competition will feature a monthly regatta between January and May, always in the waters of the Bay of Palma. These regattas are created with the aim of promoting cruising sailing and encouraging the participation in regattas of members and friends of the CNP and similar sailors in the ORC cruising class.

After the registration of participants and the delivery of the sailing instructions by the organizers, the race, consisting of a coastal course, will start at 12 noon on Saturday, the 27th of January.

More than a dozen boats and their crews are expected to take part in the regatta, which will follow a course designed according to the weather conditions. "The weather forecast is for little wind, but it will be a good day of sailing and brotherhood among sailors," says Juan Fornés, treasurer of the club and promoter of the club's social regattas.

"This trophy was created with the aim of giving the club's cruising sailors an excuse to go out sailing and to encourage social sailing in the club," he adds. "From the CNP, we want to encourage all sailors not to leave their boats moored and participate in these meetings to enjoy sailing in community, competing amicably with similar boats," he says.

After this first race, the III Trofeo Sabatines Crucero ORC will continue over the next few months, with the following dates: 24th of February, 23rd of March, 6th of April and 18th of May. On this last day, the championship will conclude with a prize-giving ceremony, followed by an agape for all the participants at the Club Nàutic Portitxol facilities. Prizes will be awarded to the first three classified in each established class, with the possibility of regrouping according to the quorum.
