The Association of Nautical Industries and Services of Ibiza and Formentera, which is part of the employers' association Pimeef, has expressed its dissatisfaction with the entry into force of the Contingency Plan of the Club Náutico de Ibiza (CNI) the past 1st of October.
VISIT OUR ONLINE TV AND EXPERIENCE THE SEA IN FIRST PERSON, WHEREVER AND WHENEVER YOU WANT“This Contingency Plan, imposed by the Balearic Port Authority to fulfill the dangers with the Ocibar dealer, that manages the nautical club, means removing no more and no less than 100 boats from Marina Botafoch, essential for the exercise of its activity, at a time when good weather conditions would allow it to be extended", the business association explains.
This Contingency Plan applies during 8 months of the year, specifically from the 1st of October to the 31st of May, “limiting the working period of the yacht charter sector is therefore reduced to 4 months per year", they point out.
But in reality is that this Contingency Plan “was activated only once last winter and during three days, from the 8th to the 10th of February of 2023, diverting to Botafoc to shelter only 10 CNI boats, 10% of the moorings reserved for 8 months were occupied for 3 days", they state.
At the same time, the companies “see their expenses increase, and must pay fees such as those for the activity of the premises or for the commercial service of repair and maintenance of ships and boats". Therefore, the sector "believes it is essential and urgent to review the Contingency Plan of the Club Nautico Ibiza", they say.
“It must be highlighted that this petition does not go against the CNI nor recreational sailing, but is an example of port management that can be improved", they point out.
Therefore, “it is clear that the Contingency Plan is not adapted to the reality nor to the necessities of recreational sailing and far from the nautical charters”.
Thus, the Nautical Association says “it will request the modification of the CNI Contingency Plan in the sense of limiting the application of the Contingency Plan to 6 months, from the 1st of November to the 30th of April, and reduce the number of free moorings reserved in case the Plan has to be activated,” they conclude.
