Llorenç Galmés, the president of the Consell de Mallorca, recalls that there are plans to relocate the current Palma branch of the museum to the old quay area. Galmés asserts that this project will create “a space of cohesion between the port and the city, showcasing the rich heritage of Mallorca through an infrastructure that will provide added cultural value to the city.”

The insular institution emphasizes that this is a consensus project, agreed upon with the director of the Maritime Museum, the fishermen, and the fish market, following the selection of the winning company for the basic project. Antònia Roca, the vice president of the Consell de Mallorca and councilor for Culture and Heritage, explains that this project integrates the fish market, the fishing quay, and the Maritime Museum: “the first two services will see improvements in their infrastructure and working conditions. As for the Maritime Museum of Mallorca, it will be endowed with a structure of sufficient quality to create a museum that matches the island's rich heritage.”

With the project established, high-quality permanent exhibitions will be held, addressing the sea in a comprehensive manner, Roca assures: “biodiversity, maritime and terrestrial heritage will be present, and contemporary debates that concern us will be highlighted.”

Additionally, Antònia Roca explains, plans include a large library, an educational space for workshops and training sessions, an auditorium, an audiovisual laboratory, and a reflecting pool, among other proposals: “for example, in this last space, a traditional Latin sailing school could be established,” Roca says. The area will also become a collaborative workspace for the museum, fishermen, and the fish market, showcasing the entire commercial process in a different way, with the added value of culture.
