In collaboration with the SOMMa Alliance, this meeting brings together renowned scientists to explore solutions to global challenges through interdisciplinary science and the analysis of complex systems.

100xCiencia.8 focuses on the environmental and digital challenges facing today's society, seeking sustainable solutions through scientific collaboration. With an emphasis on the importance of scientific evidence for responsible decision-making, the event promotes dialogue among experts from multiple disciplines.

The program includes debates on crucial topics such as the complexity of the global economy and the transformation of ecosystems due to climate change and biodiversity loss. The event also highlights the importance of engaging society in science to create collective awareness and joint actions towards a sustainable future.

The event opened this Wednesday, October 9, with a session open to the public titled "Transformative Dialogues: Facing the Challenges of a Complex World in Transition," at the Club Diario de Mallorca.

Presented and moderated by Luis Quevedo, a prominent Spanish science communicator, journalist, and filmmaker, known for making science accessible to the general public through various media, the event featured Angel Amores (IMEDEA), who in his presentation "Under the Storm, When Wind and Waves Raise the Sea" spoke about the current status of Hurricane Milton. He also addressed extreme sea level events, their causes, the influence of storms, and how the rise in mean sea level will intensify their impacts on climate change. Meanwhile, Ernesto Estrada (IFISC) discussed the role of science in addressing global challenges.

Over the three days, attendees participate in closed sessions, round tables, and keynote speeches, such as those by Stefan Thurner, an expert in complex systems, and Karina Von Schuckmann, an oceanographer specializing in ocean climate monitoring. Additionally, there are opportunities for networking, including themed lunches and dinners, providing spaces for collaboration and networking among participants.

100xCiencia.8 is a unique opportunity for the SOMMa Community to discuss and analyze how interdisciplinary research can address the most pressing problems of our time. From optimizing the green and digital transition to biodiversity conservation, the event promises to provide fresh ideas and innovative approaches for a sustainable future.
