STAY UP TO DATE OF WHAT WE DO AND RECEIVE OUR NEWSLETTERWith the campaign “Reserva 30 del Mediterráneo”, driven by the marine biologist, explorer of the National Geographic and founder of the Vellmarí Association, Manu San Félix, searches to protect the Mediterranean Sea of the overfishing, pollution, climate change and ecosystem degradation, so that we can continue to enjoy the natural jewel that is the Mediterranean, a sea that is home to a unique biodiversity.
In fact, in the World Conference of Biodiversity of the United Nations held in Montreal in December 2022, 196 countries signed a global agreement to UNESCO to protect at least 30% of the Mediterranean Sea by 2030.
Since the Vellmarí Association they recall that nature is disappearing at an unprecedented rate and that this destruction affects, for example, the air we breathe, the water we drink and the fish we eat. Therefore, they invite society to sign this manifesto for the Mediterranean and, in this way, recover local fisheries and prevent the collapse of marine ecosystems.
More than 20,000 people and organizations have already joined the campaign, which calls on the Spanish government to take urgent and necessary action to reserve 30% of Spanish Mediterranean waters. To achieve this, the manifesto calls for a halt to fishing activities in these reserve areas, in order to promote the recovery of local fisheries, restore water quality and contribute to the absorption of carbon from the atmosphere.
