The Firefighters of Mallorca specialize in new techniques to attend emergencies at ports

The aim in the training which took place in Galicia is to widen the knowledge of techniques associated with rescue in confined spaces and difficult access, and design action plans in danger zones.

36 members of the service of the Firefighters of Mallorca have participated in the «Course about security, rescue in confined spaces and chemical risk at port surroundings». This training has a goal to widen the knowledge of participants and put in practice the control of access to areas of risk, the regular scenarios and the associated techniques to rescue in confined spaces and difficult access. They have also practiced the answer to incidents and the emergencies which are affected by the principal dangerous goods which can be found in the ports of the Balearic Islands.

This course is the second cycle of a training itinerary that has three levels to specialize the Firefighters of Mallorca in the port interventions. The training has been held at the training center of emergencies at Seganosa, in Vigo, and it took five days.

Specifically, the aim of this training is to educate the firefighters in the control of staff that participates in the port interventions. As well they have started to increase steps to security with situations with low or no visibility, other than developing techniques of communication and correct transmission of the information in these conditions. They have also practiced techniques and procedures of action to face emergencies related to dangerous goods.

The course, has been done by corporal firefighters and firefighters of the Mallorca Firefighters, who have been divided into expeditions of 12 people each one. This course is developed thanks to the convention that there is between the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands and the Mallorca Firefighters, with a total amount of 63.193,50 €, for which the Mallorca Firefighters give a service to Port d’Alcúdia and technical assistance at all the ports of the Balearic Islands of which are responsible of the APB.
