Organized by the Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA), the initiative is aimed at postgraduate students from around the world who are starting their scientific careers, with the goal of providing them with advanced tools and knowledge. This event will focus on the interdisciplinary conservation of marine and coastal ecosystems, integrating physical, biological, and human aspects to address the challenges of global climate change. Collaborating institutions include the Thünen Institute of Germany, the Institute of Ecology and Biodiversity of Chile, the University of Florida, the Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon of Germany, and the Coastal Observation and Prediction System of the Balearic Islands (SOCIB), which will offer academic and scientific assistance.
The school has been funded by the State Research Agency (CEX2021-001198/AEI/10.13039/501100011033) and has received support from Eumetsat, Balearia, Iberostar, and the Sea Chair of the Iberostar Foundation. The program includes three main modules: coastal dynamics, marine ecosystem functioning, and management and governance. There will also be seminars and interactive workshops led by experts in each field. In addition to the academic sessions, students will be able to participate in practical activities such as a field trip to the Maritime-Terrestrial National Park of the Cabrera Archipelago and a visit to IMEDEA.
The panel of professors includes prominent figures such as Ángel Amores (IMEDEA-UIB-CSIC, Spain), Joaquín Tintoré (SOCIB / IMEDEA-UIB-CSIC, Spain), Susan Lowerre-Barbieri (University of Florida, USA), Julien Mader (AZTI, Spain), and Denis Bailly (AMURE, University of Western Brittany, France), among others.
This first edition offers a unique opportunity for advanced training in marine science and promotes networking and collaboration among students and professionals in the scientific sector.
