The Port Authority of the Balearic Islands (APB) and Palma City Council have reached an agreement with the groups affected by the remodeling work on Palma's promenade to reorganize the dates for the execution of the works and thus be able to meet the requests made by residents and shopkeepers.

At a meeting held in the port of Palma, attended by the president of the APB, Javier Sanz, and the councilor for Town Planning, Housing and Projects, Óscar Fidalgo, the different interest groups were informed that the works are progressing at a good pace and that they will be finished at the beginning of 2025.

Other information provided at this meeting was the forecast to complete the first phase of the works by the end of March 2024, with the aim of avoiding inconvenience during the Easter holidays and the start of the tourist season.

Javier Sanz detailed that an agreement has been reached to move the six batteries of underground waste collection containers to the opposite side of the promenade, in response to requests from business and neighborhood associations, who have agreed to do so in order to avoid inconvenience to customers and passers-by on the land side of the promenade.

Sanz justified this decision by the APB's initial commitment to this project, which was born with an innovative approach to stakeholder relations. According to Javier Sanz, "in this strategy we have three clear objectives: to involve them in the project, to provide them with the appropriate information at each stage and to receive and attend to their concerns and needs".

The interest groups related to the Nou Passeig Marítim de Palma project have been selected on the basis of the main sectors involved, which are residential, commerce, tourism, business and Palma society in general. Thus, the main associations involved are ACOIPAM, CAEB, CAEB Restauración, ABONE, Federación de Asociaciones de vecinos de Palma, FEBT, Asociación de Vecinos del Paseo Marítimo, ASHPAMA, AFEDECO, PIMECO, FEHM, AMTAT, AEVAB, PIMEM and APEAM.

One of the main achievements of these first months, and the least visible, is that 75% of the most costly installations of the project have already been completed: the main sewage and rainwater collection and impulsion networks of EMAYA. The town planning counselor, Óscar Fidalgo, thanked the municipal water company for its "diligence". "We have followed the premise of listening to the neighbors to improve their lives," he added. In this sense, the APB has paid for the private connections of the pluvial and sewage networks of the shopkeepers, neighbors and hoteliers who have asked us to do so.

At the moment, the paving of the pavements on the land side is being carried out in sections and based on the requests for dates from each business in order to avoid inconvenience to their activities and to reconcile them with their needs for closures and staff holidays.
