The General Directorate Fisheries starts an ordinance to regulate recreational marine fishing

The General Directorate Fisheries of the Government have announced that there will be a ordinance to set the general principles of lucrative recreational sea fishing and to modify the ordinances of the marine reserves of the north-east coast of Ibiza-Tagomago, of the Bledes and des Vedrà-Vendranell to allow competitions without any fish dying.

In this sense, the General Directorate Fisheries has announced on the portal of Transparencia del Govern, for the citizens and the most representative organizations potentially affected, the information related to the initiation of the procedure for the elaboration of this ordinance, that intends to to regulate the activity of the commercial boats of recreational marine fishing in interior waters of the Balearic Islands.

As well they will modify the ordinances of 45/2018 of the Marine Reserve of the north-east coast of Ibiza-Tagomago and 25/2023 of the marine sanctuaries of ses Bledes and des Vedrà-Vendranell, to allow competitions to fish always without killing and link them to follow-up scientific tasks of these reserves.

The transparency portal also publishes information on the creation of the future Commission of Co-Management of Recreational Marine Fisheries of the Balearic Islands, on which the general director of Fisheries, Antoni Grau, has assured that recreational fishing "is an activity with tens of thousands of fans in the islands that do not consider themselves well informed or participants in the decision-making mechanism in matters that affect them".

"For this reason, we propose the creation of this Commission to improve the governance of this activity and thus involve all stakeholders," he added.
