According to a press release from the Govern, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Natural Environment has fined a fisherman 60,001 euros for serious offenses in fisheries management. Specifically, last April, the offender was reported by inspectors from the General Directorate of Fisheries for providing false data regarding the origin of the products obtained from fishing activities. However, the inspectors realized that this person had already been reported several times for offenses in the same matter, such as not having the minimum crew on board or having crew members not listed in the ship's role and also storing fish without weighing. Complaints that could be made to a professional fisherman and not to an individual as indicated in the statement.

Thus, it was established that the offender had accumulated three reports in less than 24 months. Having verified these facts, the inspectors not only reported him for the serious offense observed in April but also for a very serious offense for accumulating other serious offenses. In this sense, Article 126 of Law 6/2013, of November 7, on maritime fishing, shellfishing, and aquaculture in the Balearic Islands, establishes that it is a very serious offense to commit three serious offenses within a period of less than 24 months.

As a result of the reported events, on August 22, 2024, it was agreed to initiate an administrative sanctioning procedure against the interested party for a very serious offense, which has been resolved in January of this year with the payment of the fine by the interested party.

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Natural Environment, Joan Simonet, has highlighted that "from the Govern we will continue to carry out control campaigns to ensure compliance with the law in fisheries matters, as well as regulations related to agri-food products. The main purpose is to protect the legitimate interests of the sector and consumers and, at the same time, to prevent fraud and unfair competition."
