The Guardia Civil confirms that the bodies found belong to the crew members of the “Makan Angin”

The Guardia Civil has concluded the investigation about the identification of the retrieved bodies by the GEAS in front of the Mallorcan coast at Cala Barca and Porto Cristo these past days of the 4th and 5th of September.

With the collaboration of the German police authorities, the Department of Biology of the Criminalistics Service of the Guardia Civil, with headquarter offices in Madrid, has identified the bodies through an analysis of the genetic profiles of the remains found, that coincide with the ones sent from the German authorities and correspond to the two German citizens, father and son, disappeared on the 27th of August, that were sailing the ship ‘Makan Angin’ from Cala Galdana from Menorca towards Cala D’or in Mallorca.  

The crew sailed from Cala Galdana to Cala D’Or the past 27th of August, a date in which the Balearic Islands was under alert for strong winds, waves and storms, that left behind incidents in all of the islands.  Sunday at 18:30h the Marine Rescue team received a warning from 10:00h that they could not contact the ship “Makan Angin” and was activated all the searching protocoles. During more than a week the teams of the Guardia Civil and Marine Rescue were looking for the German crew, until they finally located the two bodies the past 4th and 5th of September that, due to the lack of investigation, the police, in the absence of a final investigation, suggested that they could be those of the missing people. Finally, the Guardia Civil has confirmed their suspicions.
