The Ibiza JoySail reinvents itself and adds one more day of regattas in Ibiza and Formentera

The Ibiza JoySail reinvents itself and adds one more day of regattas in Ibiza and Formentera

30th November 2023 by Agencies

The Ibiza JoySail continues to evolve, surprise and announce new developments to remain one of the most attractive and competitive superyacht regattas in the Mediterranean. If in the 2023 edition the great novelty was the participation of the J Class and that it became an "invitational" regatta, in the 2024 edition it will be a new format of competition that will help the fun and spectacularity of the regatta.

After the success of this third edition, the organizers of the Ibiza JoySail, STP Shipyard Palma and Marina Ibiza, have already published the Notice of Race where, in addition to remaining "invitational" and only for a privileged few, a day of racing in Ibiza will be added, going from three to four days, from Thursday to Sunday, from the 19th to the 22nd of September 2024.

The other new feature is the record between Palma and Ibiza-Formentera. In the first three editions, this record was set on the first day of the regatta, with the entire fleet setting off from the bay of Palma and arriving in the bay of Ibiza. A record that currently, and since the 2022 edition, is held by Juan Ball's Swan 115 "Moat" with a time of 7 hours, 5 minutes and 30 seconds.

With a view to the next edition, Ibiza JoySail has decided to open up the possibilities for the participating boats, which, optionally, want to try to beat this record, which will have its own prize.

A 30-day window will be open between the 21st of August and the 19th of September, so that the participants who wish to do so can set off at any time, depending on the weather conditions, to try to beat the record set by the "Moat". And there are already those who are really motivated to take this title away from them.

In order for this to be effective, the boats that want to opt for the record will have to notify the organizers 24 hours before the start, which will provide them with a tracking device (to be able to track them) and a backstay flag.

The Palma-Ibiza record course of approximately 48 nautical miles is as follows: the starting point is an imaginary line at the Punta Cala Figuera lighthouse - 39º 27.449' N 002º 31.34' E and a transit bearing 148ºT from the lighthouse. The finish line will be the Tagomago lighthouse - 39º 1.952' N, 001º 38.939' E with a transit bearing 148ºT from the lighthouse.

From there, from the 19th to the 22nd of September, the races of the exclusive Ibiza JoySail regatta will be held with coastal courses in the paradisiacal waters of Ibiza and Formentera.
