The Ibiza Yacht Club asks the authorities to

18th February 2024 by Nautimedia

Dozens of people have gathered at the facilities of the Club Nautico de Ibiza to defend the existence of a social marina. The director of the entity, Vicente Canals, has served as master of ceremonies in this act in which the Ibizan architect, Elías Torres has read the manifesto "Salvem es club".

"Culture is the way of living in community of a heterogeneous social group", with this quote from the Anglo-American poet T.S. Eliot, Torres began his speech in which he spoke about the problems faced by this entity, at risk of losing its identity and its eminently social and integrating purpose in the Pitiusa society as reflected in the manifesto of Felip Cirer in 2022.

The Ibizan architect recalled the beginnings of the Club Náutico de Ibiza and reviewed the history of the entity, which emerged in 1925, and all the benefits it has brought to the society of Ibiza and Formentera. Taking into account these data, Torres asks the authorities to "save the club, do not sink it or let it die," because if the Club Nautico de Ibiza disappears "a way of life and being of the citizens of Ibiza will be definitively liquidated".

And it is not only the members of the entity, representing four generations, are part of the club, but also the whole Ibizan society. "Let the people who make up the club continue to love the island and its sea, which belongs to everyone," Torres stressed. Because the alternative to the continuity of the club is "to be left in the hands of the lucrative business of parking luxury boats and possible related restaurants" recalls the architect.

In addition to the support of the Ibizan society, the Club Nautico Ibiza has received the support of other yacht clubs, such as the president of the Real Club Nautico de Palma, Rafael Gili, the president of the Club Marítimo de Maó, Antonio Hernandez, the president of the Association of Yacht Clubs of Spain, Miquel Suñer and the president of the Association of Yacht Clubs of the Balearic Islands, Antoni Estades.
