The XXI J.L. Ferrer Trophy, held this Saturday, October 12, at Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita (CNR), has marked the culmination of two intense weekends of cruiser sailing in the waters south of Mallorca.

It all started last Saturday, October 5, when a fleet of ten cruisers set sail from Club Nàutic S’Arenal (CNA) towards CNR, as part of the S’Arenal-Sa Ràpita-S’Arenal Trophy.

Once at CNR, they joined the fleet for the President's Trophy, which featured a total of 27 vessels from S’Arenal, Can Pastilla, Sa Ràpita, S’Estanyol, Palma, Porto Colom, and Sóller, of which 18 had RI certificates and 9 were in the ORC category.

The competition unfolded under moderate wind conditions with some wave action, and the course was marked by an offset mark at one mile for tacking in the upwind leg and another mark near Es Carbó. At the end of the race, participants enjoyed a snack with pizzas, "cocas," and "ensaimadas." "The anecdote was that they came so hungry that the food was not enough, and we had to order more," laughs Carlos Esteller, head of Cruisers at CNR.

CNR offered the fleet from the S’Arenal-Sa Ràpita-S’Arenal Trophy the possibility to stay moored at the club throughout the week, ahead of the races planned for the following weekend.

In the XXI J.L. Ferrer Trophy, 25 vessels participated, setting sail at 11:05 with winds from 8 to 12 knots, heading directly to Foradada in Cabrera, where "they have been fighting, constantly tacking," according to Esteller. Afterwards, they headed towards Corberana, in Colònia de Sant Jordi, and then back to Sa Ràpita. The first vessel to finish in real-time was S’Indio III, arriving at 14:31:09. In the afternoon, the corresponding trophy presentation and dinner followed. José Luis Ferrer Winery gifted participants with three bottles from their selection.

This Sunday, October 13, the fleet of the S’Arenal-Sa Ràpita-S’Arenal Trophy carried out the second race of this competition, consisting of the return to CNA from CNR.
