The Larga is heating up with 30 boats already registered

25th February 2025 by Agencies

One of the most attractive offshore regattas in the Mediterranean, both for its course through the Balearic archipelago and for its timing in the calendar, framed in the last days of April, is reaching a sporting quality of teams and an absolute number of registrations that suggest that this fifth edition of La Larga de la Sandberg PalmaVela at the Real Club Náutico de Palma (RCNP) will perhaps be the most contested in history.

From the 100-foot British Maxi "Tilakkakhana" by Pascale Decaux to the 36-foot Palma-based "Mestral Fast" by Jaime Morell in crew format, as well as teams like "Modul" with Felix Comas or "Smerit" by Tito Moure are already registered and preparing their boats for the start line on April 26th. Additionally, the boats will tour the Balearic archipelago in approximately 36 hours and then return to the finish line in the bay.

Gaspar Morey, the main race committee officer at the RCNP, notes that "it's always a challenge to design and get the course of La Larga right based on weather forecasts. For this, we use several prediction models, in addition to all the team's experience, to try to interpret what will happen out there every hour for a couple of days."

Morey also highlighted that “one of the successes of La Larga is the adaptability we have in the archipelago to be able to choose a course that is attractive for the weather conditions and that is sportingly challenging, always seeking to escape monotony and calms.”
