As reported by the City Council in a press release, the operation, which depends on the Department of Environment, began last Saturday and will remain active until October 31, including accessibility service.

This year the service has been brought forward to the weekend before Easter, unlike previous years when it began on May the 1st and accessibility on June the 1st. In this way, the Consistory has indicated that it seeks to provide better service and adapt, in a "more realistic" way, to the influx of citizens.

It has also increased the number of watchtowers from 16 to 18, incorporating one on the beach of Palma and another in Ciutat Jardí. Thus, in Cala Estancia there is a tower, in Portitxol another, two in Can Pere Antoni, eight in Playa de Palma, two in Ciutat Jardí and two in Cala Major.

The hours of the surveillance service will be from 11:00 to 17:00 hours from March 24th to April 30th, from 11:00 to 19:00 hours from May 1st to June 30th, from 10:00 to 19:00 hours from July 1st to August 31st, from 10:00 to 19:00 hours from September 1st to September 30th, and from 10:00 to 17:00 hours from the 1st to the 31st of October.

The service will also be supported by a 4.5-meter underwater dinghy, three jet skis, an ambulance, a vehicle with a trailer for transporting personnel and equipment, and a rapid intervention vehicle, which is being incorporated for the first time this year.

In addition to the 18 lifeguards in the lifeguard towers, there will be nine more operators doing dynamic surveillance, six in the aquatic vehicles and another six in the accessibility service. Thus, during the established hours the surveillance staff will be at least 40 people.

Likewise, the Environment has replaced the toilet facilities and accessibility toilets on the beaches of Ciutat Jardí and Can Pere Antoni. In addition, new beacons have been installed in Portitxol and Paseo del Molinar and will be installed in the coming days in the areas of Es Carnatge and Cala Gamba.
