Since the beginning of the bathing season, on May 1, the Balearic Islands Rescue and Lifeguard Services, coordinated by the General Directorate of Emergencies and Interior of the Government, have made a total of 17,468 assistances.
FOLLOW US ON OUR SOCIAL MEDIA PROFILES AND RECEIVE UPDATES FROM "PASSION FOR THE SEA"Of these 17, 248 were resolved without the need for evacuation to a hospital and the remaining 219 cases were serious incidents in which organizations outside the municipal rescue service were involved.
Up to today, a total of 385 aquatic interventions have been carried out: 114 due to rip currents, 72 due to waves, 64 for having strayed too far from the beach and 52 for other circumstances. It should be noted that, of these interventions, 148 were carried out under yellow flag and 11 under red flag. Thanks to the quick intervention of the lifeguards, in 366 occasions these actions have ended without transfer to a health center and the user has been able to continue enjoying his day at the beach.
With regard to the prevention actions of the services that monitor safety on the beaches of the Balearic Islands, a total of 106,242 actions have been carried out, of which the most recurrent are related to reckless behavior of users:
During this season 18 people have drowned on the beaches of the Balearic Islands, 7 of them on supervised beaches with lifeguard, rescue and lifeguard service, 3 outside the schedule and 8 on unattended beaches.
