The Port Authority of Valencia has awarded the Majorcan company Sampol the contract for the drafting and execution of the project for the installation of the electrical connection to ships on the Transversal de Costa-MSC quay of the port.
DID YOU LIKE THIS CONTENT? WELL... YOU HAVE ALL OF OUR FULL PROGRAMS HERE!This contract includes the drafting of the construction project, the execution of the works for the installation of the electrical supply to ships, together with the connection and disconnection operation, and the maintenance of the installations. A total period of 57 months is envisaged for all of this, the awarded amount being 9,175,556.69 euros.
This work is a continuation of the work already carried out by Sampol in other ports, such as the installation of electricity supply to Ferries on the Paraires quay in the Port of Palma or the installation of electricity supply to ships on the Muelle Grande quay in the Port of Las Palmas, which places the company in a leading position in this type of installation on the national scene.
The project will provide 2 supply points with their respective cable management system. Each supply or connection point will be capable of supplying electricity to a vessel of up to 7.5 MVA. However, if there were two vessels simultaneously berthed and demanding electricity, up to 5MVA could be supplied to each of them simultaneously.
To meet this power demand, an OPS substation will be installed at the Transversal de Costa pier. This substation is the heart of the system. Onshore Power Supply (OPS) is a key tool in the framework of the port authority's decarbonisation strategy, insofar as the origin of this energy is renewable and will replace the consumption of fossil fuels. This system will avoid the use of the ships' auxiliary engines when they are berthed in port, thus reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
As for the cable management method, the second major component, it will consist of a cable management system that will provide speed, ease and safety in the maneuvers of connecting and disconnecting cables to and from the ship.
The project will enable the supply to container ships docking at the Transversal Coastal Quay of the Port of Valencia, currently operated by Mediterranean Shipping Company Terminal Valencia, S.A. (MSCTV). The execution of the construction project is subsidized by the Next Generation funds of the European Union and the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan to electrify the Valencian port, one of the largest in terms of container traffic in Spain.
