The "Nadir," owned and skippered by Mallorcan Pedro Vaquer, already knows what it is to conquer the ClubSwan 42 World Championship, a feat achieved in 2022 with his team from the Club de Vela Port d’Andratx. On this occasion, he will again count on a high-level crew, notably including the Canarian Rayco Tabares. The team, competing in local waters, starts as one of the favorites in its class after their victory at the Trofeo S.M. La Reina held in July in Valencia, and aims to repeat their success in the Bay of Palma.
The second Spanish team in the ClubSwan 42 category is the "Pez de Abril," owned by Murcian José María Meseguer, who has also assembled a top-level crew to compete in the World Championship. This boat has an excellent track record in the Bay of Palma, where it has won the Copa del Rey Mapfre on three occasions. Among its crew are tactician Antonio "Talpi" Piris and Mallorcan navigator Elvira Llabrés.
In addition to the Spanish representatives, the championship will feature three foreign boats based in Mallorca. The "Long Echo," owned by Barry Sampson and flying the flag of the RCN Palma, will also compete in the ClubSwan 42 category. In the ClubSwan 50 class, the "Olymp," from RCN Palma, owned by Mark and Louis Bezner, and the "Perhonen," from Reial Club Nàutic Port de Pollença, owned by Ross Warburton, will participate.
The fleet gathered in Palma will include some of the best boats from the Swan shipyard. In the ClubSwan 36 category, the "Gspot," owned by Monacan Giangiacomo Serena, the 2023 world champion, will participate. In the ClubSwan 50 class, the "Cuordileone," owned by Italian Leonardo Ferragamo, and the "Hatari," owned by German Marcus Brennecke, both previous champions, will compete.
The sports program will begin this Tuesday, October 22, with the registration of participants and measurements. A practice race will be held on Wednesday, and the scoring races will take place from Thursday, October 24, to Sunday, October 27. A maximum of eight races are scheduled, including the possibility of a coastal race, depending on weather conditions."
