The Naval Sector of the Balearic Islands celebrated the feast of the Virgin of Carmen, patron saint of sailors and navigators, yesterday afternoon, Tuesday, July 16, with a commemorative event at the Porto Pi naval base.
STAY UP TO DATE OF WHAT WE DO AND RECEIVE OUR NEWSLETTERIn addition to Navy personnel, family, and friends, the event, presided over by the commander of the Naval Sector of the Balearic Islands, Captain Javier Núñez de Prado, was attended by the President of the Parliament of the Balearic Islands, Gabriel Le Senne; the Minister of the Sea, Juan Manuel Lafuente; the Government Delegate in the Balearic Islands, Alfonso Rodríguez; the Mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez; and the Bishop of Mallorca, Sebastià Taltavull.
At 8:00 PM, Bishop Taltavull, together with the military chaplain of the Balearic Islands, officiated a mass in the chapel of the Porto Pi naval base, which concluded with the attendees singing the Salve Marinera.
Shortly after, the attendees were led to one of the base's courtyards, where decorations and distinctions were awarded to various military entities, right at the foot of the Spanish flag. As per military tradition, the Spanish flag was lowered at sunset.
Following the official ceremonies, family, friends, and Navy personnel enjoyed a Spanish wine reception.
