For the third year consecutive, the Navy, through their Communication Office, they will announce the tasks and work that two of its most representative ships, the Oceanographic Research Vessel "Hespérides" and the Training Ship "Juan Sebastián de Elcano", will carry out in their next Antarctic Campaigns and Midshipmen Training Cruise, respectively.
STAY UP TO DATE OF WHAT WE DO AND RECEIVE OUR NEWSLETTERThe Ship of Oceanographic Investigation of the Navy will depart from the following Friday 24th of November in demand of the Mar de Plata, this way starting their XXVIII Antarctic Campaign, which will develop until the end of the following month of May. At this moment the Navy will be in contact with different educational centers of Primary and Secondary to explain, in person, what consists their work during the next couple of months.
The BIO Hespérides, will embark on a project the service of the I+D+I, the result of collaboration between public and private institutions. In addition to the resources provided by the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Science and Innovation finances both research projects and campaign expenses. It also provides logistical support to the Spanish Antarctic Bases, "Juan Carlos I", managed by the CSIC, and "Gabriel de Castilla", operated by the Spanish Navy.
Soon the School Ship “J.S. de Elcano” will start their XCVI Cruise ship of Midshipmen training, an occasion that the Navy will take advantage of to bring the students of the brigantine-schooner into contact with students from different schools and institutes from all over Spain.
After the warm welcome this initiative received last year among the participating educational centers, the Navy will once again be committed to making itself known among the youngest, especially in those parts of our geography that are furthest from the sea.
