The optimists enjoy the competition and the fun of the Repsol Trophy of the CN Sa Ràpita

4th December 2023 by Nautimedia

More than a hundred young sailors from all the yacht clubs of Mallorca and some from Menorca gathered this weekend, together with their families, at the Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita to participate in the Repsol Trophy of the Optimist class for the Optimist D, U11 and U13 categories, excluding from the latter those who in 2024 will change their category.

The competition was held on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd of December, with 6 races scheduled, of which 5 races were sailed for the U11 and U13 classes, and 3 for the Optimist D, who were only able to sail on Sunday. In total, there were 112 sailors registered for this Trophy, of which 49 corresponded to the U13, 40 to the U11 and 32 to the Optimist D. The sailors represent all the clubs of Mallorca with representation in this class, as well as some from the CN Ciutadella.

On Saturday the weather was marked by a wind of between 17 and 22 knots that allowed the U11 and U13 fleet to carry out two races, while the Optimist D had to stay in port. On Sunday, although the wind was weak, three races in each of the categories were held.

The winners of this Repsol Trophy were, in the U11 category, Juan Burguera (CNR), followed by Guillermo Juan (CN S'Estanyol) and Mario Coronado (CMSAP); in the U13 category, Pedro Burgués (RCNP), Andreu Moya (RCN Puerto Pollença) and Sofía Salazar (CNP), and in Optimist D, Nicolás Siquier (RCN Pollença), Izaro Torrealba (CNA) and Aina Sánchez (CNA).

As a social novelty, at the end of Saturday's regattas, the athletes and their families were able to enjoy a series of surprise activities organized by the club so that children and adults could have a great time and strengthen their bonds. A huge hamburger bar was held and, at the same time, the club set up a bouncy castle where the children were able to play and have fun. "There was a fantastic atmosphere among the sailors and their families. About 180 people got together and had a great time", celebrates the sports director of the CNR, Miki Bover. And, he stresses, "in this regatta, the protagonists are the little ones", both on the water and on dry land.

On Sunday, after the last races, the prize-giving ceremony took place at the club's facilities at 15:30 hours.
